The Tower of London is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site on two criterions. It has been described as a structure that offers outstanding universal value and has defined the United Kingdom through political struggles, economic unification and royal appointments through the centuries. The conservation and preservation of the structures, some of which are approaching 1,000 years old is the focus of Fortis works; and what more fitting place to start than the casemates of the curtain wall.
Fortis were appointed to assist with potential landmark changes with the objective to restore and preserve origins Curtainwall features. This employed not only technical approach to historic masonry design but working with Historic Royal Palaces curation teams and Historic England so that accountable design and engineering was documented in such a manner that it would be accurately recorded through time.
