With the advent of the railway in the 19th century Blackpool became the ‘Victorian Resort Town’ for holidaymakers seeking sea, sun and entertainment. The 3 piers later adding to the attraction; North Pier (1863), Central Pier (1868), and South Pier (1893).
One of Blackpool’s most iconic landmarks, the Blackpool Tower, was opened in 1894. Inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris, it was a symbol of the town’s growth and prosperity. Now, 130 years later Blackpool Council, Blackpool and The Fylde College and Lancaster University are ensuring that higher educational facilities are part of the region’s history moving forward. Hawkins\Brown are authoring the architecture whilst paying homage to the region’s famously exciting promenades.
