1 James Street and the surrounding tributary streets contain some of London’s rich historic stories of being redefined by WW2 bombing, pioneering department stores of Oxford Street and even helping to contribute to ventilation requirements in buildings.

1 James Street is famously the home of the C&A Building which fronted Oxford Street and running along James Street.

The building is a function of bomb damage to the site and the introduction of concrete Modern Methods of Construction as a rebuild solution.

Fortis were appointed to resolve historic fixing detailing which upon forensic investigations revealed a unique undocumented restraint design. This required analysis and integration of modern design to demonstrate a retention design which permitted the reuse of existing fabric so as to reduce and avoid unnecessary disruption to embodied carbon.
